Keynote: John Willinsky – “The Open Access Possibilities and Promise for Research Libraries Today”

This talk will explore a number of the more promising opportunities for research libraries to advance and enhance academic and public access to research and scholarship, as we enter an era in which universal open access now appears to be a common goal. It will do so by addressing the ways in which libraries are working together to (a) develop their capacities to host and support campus-based scholarly publishing; (b) build the elements and components of open scholarly communication infrastructure; (c) formulate new standards for assessing open access journal quality, utility, and value; and (d) partner with research funders and publishers to directly support the publication of open access journals.
